Tata Power awarded India’s largest solar and battery storage project

DECEMBER 1, 2021 UMA GUPTA
Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (Tata Power Solar), India’s largest private-sector integrated solar company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, has received a Letter of Award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) for the engineering, procurement and construction of a 100 MW solar PV project along with 120 MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Chhattisgarh.

The total contract value of the project is approximately ÌNR 945 crore (US$ 126 million).

The project is scheduled for completion within 18 months. Tata Power Solar’s work scope includes engineering, design, supply, construction, erection, testing, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of the projects.

The utility-scale EPC order book of Tata Power Solar now stands at 4.4 GW (DC) capacity with an approximate value of US$1202 million (INR 9,000 crore without goods and services tax), thereby strengthening its position as India’s leading solar EPC player.

The latest win has strengthened Tata Power Solar’s diversified offerings with BESS within the renewable segment. The company is already executing a 50 MW solar project with 50 MWh battery storage at Leh in Ladakh.

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power said, “We are glad to receive this prestigious order from SECI to build Solar EPC projects along with India’s largest utility-scale BESS project. This is the second grid-scale solar plant with BESS and is recognition of Tata Power Solar’s pioneering work in project execution capabilities in the solar energy domain.”

Tata Power Solar has a portfolio of more than 7GW of ground-mount utility-scale, over 750 MW of rooftop, and distributed generation projects across the country. It has installed over 55,000 solar water pumps in India to date. Tata Power Solar also operates a solar manufacturing unit in Bangalore, which has a production capacity of 580 MW of modules and 530 MW of cells.
